The Journey to The Moon
The Moon began as a provocation to synthesize a fairytale and a work of visual work of art into a physical theatre exploration. The result of that provocation was then further developed around Erikson's Stages of Development to explore life through a lens not often seen in storytelling. What if none of the characters are truly heroic? What if they are just human? What if good intentions aren't enough to make a life meaningful? And what if there is more to life than how we define ourselves? The story that unfolds is a grave and poetic reminder that each choice we make impacts the people we leave behind.

The first workshop production was an ethereal exploration of tragedy masked in beauty. The language of the script was the focus of the production as we encouraged our audience to sit in stillness and light.

The Moon in further developement
Following the 1st workshop production of The Moon, directors Jack Ives & Megan Hardgrave decided that the show needed to go back to its foundation as a physical theatre work. Drawing upon the early traditions of fairy tales and the poor theatre concept of Jerzy Grotowski, they stripped away all of the spectacle of the first production to reveal something that felt closer to the solemn gentleness of the original inspiration art by Aert van der Neer. This new provocation elevates the poetic language of the script through dynamic movement and light. The story that emerges from the simplicity of the stage is one that carries universal resonance as we explore the way we carry identity and relationships through our life.
